MOXIE Theatre Announces 10th Anniversary Season Celebrating a Decade of Women’s Work in San Diego

August 12th, San Diego CA— MOXIE Theatre, an award-winning local theatre company recently voted as one of the top three theaters in San Diego on San Diego’s A-List, is turning 10 years old. They’ve planned a ground-breaking season of productions to celebrate what they do best, defying stereotypes associated with “women’s work.” As San Diego’s only company dedicated to producing female artists, MOXIE has single-handedly pushed the city of San Diego over the national average for the production of female playwrights, while continually producing award-winning theatre for a diverse audience. Their tenth anniversary season will remind fans why their work is both vital and irresistible.

MOXIE’s 10th Season comes with five ambitious productions that will take audiences from the Garden of Eden, through Colonial Times, pre-Civil Rights New York City, the 2001 collapse of the American financial sector and into the bedroom of the modern American teenage girl…who’s talking to the ghost of her mother… And will include one San Diego Premiere, one West Coast premiere and two World Premieres!

MOXIE Theatre is a professional non-profit theatre founded by the critically acclaimed group of performers and directors; Jo Anne Glover, Liv Kellgren, Delicia Turner Sonnenberg and Jennifer Eve Thorn in 2005. MOXIE’s mission is to create more diverse and honest images of women for our culture using the art of theatre. Through the production of primarily female playwrights and the special attention given to plays which defy the stereotypes of what women are writing about, MOXIE expands the idea of what is feminine. Our dedication to finding work that is under-produced means we’re discovering the classics of the future.

MOXIE fans know that each distinct MOXIE production will always share one similar quality – Moxie. Defined as “courage, pluck, gumption, perseverance, guts.” It

may be the hero of a play who embodies the term moxie, or a challenging subject matter. Perhaps a playwright has invented an original world for audiences to explore, or actors are asked to stretch to new heights and break new ground in story-telling. In whatever way it is revealed, moxie is the unifying quality that defines all of our productions.
